Hallows : Find A Way

OUT OF 10

A little over a year ago on the coldest night of the year, I jumped in my car and drove as fast as my aging Honda Civic would allow in hopes of catching a group I have been very impressed with over the years. It was single digit cold, but the journey to Brooklyn from North Jersey had two things going for it, one was obviously seeing Hallows live and two was attending the performance at the legendary Saint Vitus venue (RIP). I believe this was a one off show and Hallows flew back to the warmth of sunny LA the next day. Of course the show was great. The piercing cold air outside matched the icy shivering sounds inside. Both Vanee and Dom brought the place to life with their energy and passion. Dom even gave a nod to NYHC fans with his sleeveless Nausea shirt!

As Hallows gears up to release their highly anticipated third album later this year, they unload the first single and video complement for Find A Way. Hallows stays true to form creating enough BPM to easily find the middle ground between swaying and hopping around the dancefloor. Vanee’s voice drips with a chilling ghostly embrace that emits the powerful interpersonal emotions that tell the story of a person carrying the weight of love, obsession and loss on their shoulders as they weave their way through a difficult time. Vanee and Dom collaborated with producer Matia Simovich of Inhalt looking to push their sonic boundaries to next level. The end result finds the listener willing to push their own boundaries and try to find a way to make this impossible situation work. It’s a fascinating dark journey of mesmerizing vocals,  pummeling pachydermic beats,  and enticing transitions that flutter like a thousand linnets’ wings overhead. Hallows hits the nail on the head yet again, but that should not be a surprise to anyone familiar with the duo.
