White Ring : Eyes 4 U : 8.5 out of 10
I wouldn’t venture to say that I’m the go-to guy for witch house music, or any music of any genre, to be honest, BUT I do get excited whenever White Ring announces something new. The Florida-based witch house project has put out winning albums since their inception and it doesn’t seem like that’s going to be stopping with their newest album Fate. The reveal track is Eyes 4 U which comes alongside a music video that looks like it wouldn’t be out of place at a found footage festival. You can expect their usual output of witch house shenanigan, dragging beats, hip-hop influences, and digitally altered voices which brings me into an otherworldly state of mind. Brilliant start and I can’t wait to hear the rest of it. Digital and CD and Vinyl are available for pre-order now.
Dark Machine Nation : ROTTING : 8.5 out of 10
One of Ohio’s most powerful outputs, Dark Machine Nation, has blessed us all with another noisy powerhouse single titled ROTTING. Five-and-a-half minutes of dark ambient backed, ritualistic noise featuring Gregorian chants. I don’t think there’s much more I’d want from the man other than this. Except for maybe a full album. That’d be nice. And some vinyl, too. Please.
Narcohypnotic : Black Cosmic Circle : 7.5 out of 10
This is a pretty strong debut single from dark electronic artist Narcohypnotic. The opening moments of this song are like something you’d hear in a horror movie chase scene; thrilling drums and an ominous underlying backing tone. And that eerie feeling of horror never quite goes away and stays throughout the entire track. A tad bit too long? Sure, six-minutes is a bit overkill, and the vocals are a bit too low and get lost in the mix a bit, but the overall texture hits nicely. More coming soon from him, too, as this is the first single off his debut album Death Disc due out in October.
Lockslip : Gray World (ft. King Yosef) : ? out of 10
I didn’t think I’d ever find myself covering a through-and-through metalcore / mathcore project but here I am. No rating on this single as I don’t think I’m qualified enough to give it one…Then again I don’t think I’m qualified to give ratings to the majority of what I do but here’s to being another blogger online in a world of millions. What caught my eyes about this project is that its from Bleakhouse, founded by everyone’s favorite industrial metal artist King Yosef. Who also so happens to be featured on the debut single from Lockslip’s forthcoming album The Conversation. Go check it out.
