You know, in all my time of listening to industrial music and seeing / hearing about technocrats and technocracy never once did I bother to look up what the term meant. Sure, I guessed and when I actually read on it I was somewhat right, somewhat wrong, but the full extent of my knowledge on the subject was limited. Now that I have read up on it I can summarily say that within a week or two I’ll likely forget about this subject and have this repetitive thought process later on in my life. The reason why this internal dialogue was sparked, however, was due to Dos Asmund’s announcement of his brand-new album “Technokrat”.
“Technokrat” is a love letter to Dos Asmund’s twenty-five years as a music producer. He’s been through and seen it all: intelligent techno of the late 90s, drum’n’bass and big beat of the late 90s, dark ambient, dark elecro, EBM, rave, electroclash, techno, industrial and more. All coming and going, having dips and revivals, so on and so forth. Thus he has a very simple philosophy: connect what would be deemed incompatible in the world of music and make it work.
This is why on the album he has songs such as ‘Monolith’ that combine cinematic scores with US American electro-industrial; ‘Radiation’ which sees hi-hats transformed into Geiger counters in Intelligent Techno and dark electro, and ‘Dirt and Circuits’ which marries Ronan Harris synth influence with ‘Autechre’ influences. Intense research of music from the eighties onward and one-and-a-half years of research went into this project.
“Technokrat” will be available in digital and limited-edition CD formats on January 3rd, 2025 before migrating onto all major platforms on February 28th, 2025. You can check it out HERE.
