Labels popping up in the industrial and dark electronic scene seems like a bit of a rarity as so many artists have either chosen to take the independent route OR have joined one of the fabulous collectives that already exist in the world. It’s always interesting to me to see what a new label can offer, what talent it brings along, so on and so forth. Emerging label Breathing Records, founded just this year, is one that I aim to keep an eye on as they’ve just released one of the finest samplings this year titled Inhale, Vol. 1.
Inhale, Vol. 1 features a who’s whomst of underground electronic artists ranging from acts I’ve heard of and adore such as the industrial hardcore monster that is King Yosef, the enchanting destructive machine that is Street Fever, and the mechanical synthpop trio Matte Blvck. And, of course, my favorite part of compilations is discovering artists I’ve never heard of such as Industrial / EBM duo Moon 17, the techno rhythms of VCRHEADCLEANER, and the heavy witch house inspired beats of So Much Blood. Ten tracks in total to discover with a couple artists I haven’t mentioned as of yet. More for you to discover, no?
The goal of Breathing Records is similar to so many other labels that pop up. On their site’s about page you can find a small mission statement promising boundary-pushing artists and fun live shows for listeners while promising a community of shared knowledge for their artists. Only time will tell if Breathing Records lives up to this reputation but I’m excited for the label’s future to say the very least.
Inhale, Vol. 1 is available on Spotify for streaming, with CDs and Vinyl available for pre-order HERE.
