Derision Cult Releases Sister Machine Gun, The Goodyear Pimps Covers on Flyover Noise

I am probably the worst person to send covers to. I think I’ve made it very clear multiple times in the past that I abhor MOST cover tracks; long story short, if you can’t make a cover of a track that sounds as good as or better than the original, don’t bother. I’m just gonna crawl back to the original. You know what else I’m really bad? Obscure industrial music history and classic bands in the scene as I’m clueless when it comes to that for the most part. And you know what Derision Cult has done? Sent me a combo deal that combines the two which is a recipe for disaster in my mind. THAT BEING SAID, Derision Cult does a phenomenal job covering two bands that I never really listened to before and probably wouldn’t have save for the fact that I wanted to for a small amount of research.

Both acts stem from Derision Cult’s home-state of Illinois and the songs (obviously) meant a lot to Derision Cult (otherwise what would be the point of covering said songs?). Dave McAnally, frontman of the project, said this about the covers:

Sister Machine Gun’s cold wave late Wax Trax sound looms large over our overall approach to songwriting, and the punk/metal sounds from bands like The Goodyear Pimps loomed large for us in high school, playing local shows that permeated our ears. On this EP, we pay homage to both.

Flyover Noise is available on all major streaming platforms.

Editor-in-Chief. Been writing for this site since 2012. Worked my way up to the top now I can't be stopped. I love industrial and dark electronic music which is why I'm so critical of it.
