I was misled when I first read that Hedonia’s label was called Paul and Marie’s Country Kitchen, co-owned with her husband Paul M’Olive. And I don’t think many would blame me; the title reminisces that of a cooking show set out in the woods in the middle of nowhere with firepits and farms and nature all around. But what the label really focuses is synth experiments and general electronic fuckery. Point-in-case is Hedonia’s brand-new single Eve Had the Metallic Shine of Summer.
Eve Had the Metallic Shine of Summer was shot guerilla-style for over a half-day all over Baltimore by Director Alex Shaak and stars lyricist and performer Black Kite. Inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s Persona, the video depicts a mannequin named Eve who’s a representation of a toxic relationship. The weather and the storm seen within is a coincidence but makes the video much more dramatic.
Collaborator Black Kite had this to say about the song: This song is about the potency and allure of destructive, codependent relationships and how they require us to self-abandon. It speaks to both addiction and toxic relationships that masquerade as love or comfort, but are actually antithetical to both.
