You know what goes together like sour milk and vodka? Industrial musicians and their incessant need to butcher classic songs in cover compilations. And that’s exactly what friends of the site and industrial metal band Black Hole Zion has done on their latest release Wormhole Aliens. Sorry guys. I won’t spend an entire article reviewing the album but just know that I don’t like it. But I do love you. Which is why I’m spending ten minutes on my Sunday to write this out.
Wormhole Aliens was supposed to be released a bit before but then the pandemic hit and we all know how that threw a wrench in everyone’s plans. Right after they lost their friend and bandmate Stanley Benkovic to cancer. The tragedies continued as frontman of the group Mark’s dog Randy was hit with cancer as well and passed shortly thereafter. My condolences on both of these accounts.
This is both a tribute to the past and a hopeful look toward the future with their new lineup. The selection process for the covers was simply based on where the band was at the time; everyone threw song titles out into the ether and that’s that. The album is available for streaming and purchase on Bandcamp and other streaming networks.
