A few weeks back my buds and I took a two-hour drive into Philly in an event that would last late into the night. And if there’s one thing that I hate it’s staying up too late; I’m an old man at heart. 8:30 / 9:00pm is my bed time and I doze off pretty hard and it takes something special to make me want to skip my snoring hours. But when I heard that a triage of industrial’s finest was coming to Philly for a show I booked myself for that night. Street Sects, Youth Code, and King Yosef all under one roof alongside up-and-comer Insula Iscariot. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Will I write a show review? Probably not. I feel as if those emotions are best left for the actual experience and not a blog post. But what I did get through mutual contacts is a quick couple of words from King Yosef whose still on tour in this edition of INTRODUCING.
Give us a brief about your band. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Tayves Yosef Pelletier. I am an engineer, producer, guitar player and control freak from Portland, Oregon.
When did you first launch the project and how has it come along since?
Initially I launched King Yosef as a side project for solo experiments. It has since progressed to my full time creative outlet and an intrinsic part of my life. I’d like to think the last 4 years are the real part of the project and work I can stand by proudly.
What bands and artists influenced you the most and why?
Godflesh but Justin Broadrick as a whole. His entire discography has so many ideas spanning so many years that it puts me in awe he is always ahead of the curve through simply not compromising.
If you could pick a single song from your discography to explain your music, which song would you pick and why?
Vi Coactus. It’s the most concise version of the aggression and song writing that best represents what you’re gonna see at a alive show.
What is your most recent release and what is it about?
Spire Of Fear is my latest album. It’s a record about the future and being terrified of the unknown.
Take us through your creative process. How do you compose a song from start to finish? Where do the ideas come from?
Songs for me always start with an idea. I am not a jam and find something person. Generally starts with synths or sound design and from there I work backwards to try and not use traditional instruments as long as I can.
What’s your current favorite song, band, or album within your scene? And vice versa, what do you enjoy the most that’s completely opposite of what you make?
Insula Iscariot, insane debut record of Industrial I haven’t heard anything like before. Opposite of the spectrum would be Burial’s Rival Dealer EP.
What is on the horizon for your project? Upcoming gigs, tours, merch, videos, etc. Name it, link it, show it off.
Currently I am on tour with Youth Code, Street Sects and Insula Iscariot. I will be touring the midwest and east coast with Author & Punisher in the spring and will be heading to Europe next year but can’t speak to that too much.
