Lords of Acid : Ich Will Nur Das : 8 out of 10
Being a fan of Mari Kattman’s work I was delighted to see that she has a new collaboration single out with none other than Lords of Acid. Not necessarily a huge surprise given that they’re both signed to Metropolis Records, but the vocal style is out of her usual industrial / trip-hop backed dance music. Instead we’re given sassy lyrics sung in German with a beat that wouldn’t sound out of place being in the Tokyo Extreme Racer soundtrack. It’s fast, it’s fun, and I could definitely get a nice, sweaty pump listening to this. This comes off their forthcoming album Mundo Bizzaro which can be purchased HERE.
Street Sects : No Percentage In Caution : 9 out of 10
Considering that this one came out in June and I’ve been having the vinyl sitting on my desk since it arrived a few weeks back, I’m definitely a little late on this one. Still, it’s somewhat recent and I’ve been jamming out to this during my gym sessions to it’s worth talking about. After their double-album Street Sects / Street Sex releases, the iconic Texan duo went back to roots and released a double-single, an A/B side vinyl featuring the tracks No Percentage in Caution and Bench Warrant. The first is the usual aggravated aural assault of noise and industrial we’ve all come to know and love from Street Sects, whilst the second is a calmer, more technical mix of stunning tense atmosphere and bass.
HORSKH and Carpenter Brut : Connected : 8 out of 10
When I saw that HORSKH and Carpenter Brut were collaborating on a single I was awaiting some of the heaviest, noisiest beats between the neo-industrial / cyberpunk acts. Instead what I got was a feel good rhythm that reminds me of a classic summer hit. Upbeat with some gritty vocals and an overall dance / industrial rock vibe that’ll get me moving. It’s fast, fun, and frenetic. There ya go.
SØLVE : NOTHING LASTS : ? out of 10
When I finished writing the review for BESTIAL MOUTHS’ DEAD LINES, I thought to myself, “What has Mr. Showers been up to with SØLVE since I last heard from the project?” I remember the BLEAK HEARTS BURN EP some time ago and that was pretty dope, and when I went to his Bandcamp page I found a new single titled NOTHING LASTS. And this is something that’s completely out of my wheelhouse, but nonetheless wholesome. This is a cover of Matthew Sweet’s song of the same name, an artist I’ve never heard of. But don’t expect the usual SØLVE routine; there’s no huge industrial inspiration here, not big beats or angry vocals. What we have here is a slow moving electro-acoustic single. Which is exactly why I didn’t rate this single; it’s not something I would normally review and it’s not something I’m going to review. It just is. And for what is it, it’s nice.
