I think the one thing a lot of people take advantage of is the fact that they have someone to celebrate the holidays with. And there’s no shame in enjoying that; but appreciating the fact that you do, in fact, have someone to celebrate it with is entirely another thing. In a sense that’s what the Pogues single Fairytale of New York was originally about; the haves and the have-nots. Only in their case the song was about an alocoholic recalling more blissful times with a loved one before it all fell apart, and they spend the day remembering those moments after one-too many bottles led them to a drunk tank.
Dark electronic producers grabyourface and er4se have seemingly embraced the idea of this song as they’ve decided to make what I can only describe as a sadwave cover of the original song. Beginning with a couple of coughs, fuzzy vocals come to play with sirens in the background. A haunting witch house inspired beat fulfills the song as both grabyourface and er4se duel. Also, baguette.
