MARCO'S TOP ALBUMS OF 2012 - #20 (Part 4 of 23)
What's the sound of a world where the robots have finally staged an uprising and conquered the human race? I guess, what you hear in MODULATE new EP, aptly titled 'Robots', which we find at #20!
Most of you will remember Geoff Lee's band mostly for the dance floor hit "Skullfuck", which literally took the scene by storm in 2007. I will admit that the follow-up album, "Detonation", didn't leave me very impressed: it felt a bit more of the same, even if surely ranked miles above all the crappy-sounding "industrial rave" wannabes that were starting to get high praises around.
With "Robots", Lee is back with a vengeance, delivering a modern, fresh-sounding release that surely leaves you wanting for more and asking for a full length album as soon as possible.
Crowned by amazing remixes, above all those by the hard house legends Lab 4 and the clever re-interpretation by Aesthetic Perfection, we find here the roots of a potential new genre, the so-called Ibiza Industrial that started as a tongue-in-cheek joke online but already proved to have quite the following among the alternative club-goers: the instrumental mix of "Nightmares" could well be its anthem.
Suggested listening: "Robots", "Boombox", "Nightmares (Instrumental Club Mix)", "Dirty Fckn Disco (with Shaun F.)"
