Project Rotten - Bleed You Dry
Project Rotten is back and this time with a self-released free and downloadable EP called 'Bleed You Dry'. It's still not released by a label, but it's been remastered and the sound quality is great.
In this six track EP we get three new tracks, a remastered version of "Confessions of a Killer" from the demo and two remixes, we will talk more about them soon.
The first track is the title track "Bleed You Dry" and it's one of the bands better tracks, it's heavily influenced by southern American acts with its melodies and I think the samples are more original. The remastered version of "Confessions of a Killer" surely has better sound quality than the demo version, but otherwise unchanged and still is not one of my favourites, but overall it's a good tune. After that we get two new tracks, "Lead or Follow" which is harsh EBM to the core, and then my favourite track on the EP called "Left to Die". This track has all the ingredients I need, great melodies, awesome samples and the whole concept of it is very immersive. This is a record deal track for sure.
One of my biggest concern with the demo was that the fact that the vocals was so very low compared to the music, this have been fixed and it's better now, but still you feel like the vocals and the music is one mass, I would prefer if the music back up the vocals a bit more, rather than one single instance, but still I'm pleased.
Finally we have the two remixes. First out is a remix of the old track "Nightmares" by Mexican artist Anamadim. The first thing you notice is the poor sound quality and since it's mastered, it must have been quite awful to start with. Still, I really love the way Anamadim compose his melodies and he have made the vocals stand out more, so despite the sound quality, this is one hell of a track. The second remix is made by Incubite that have remixed "Scream". This is a more scaled down track in the sound department, more monotone and with heavy beats, it's a good remix and a bit different from Project Rotten's general sound.
"Bleed You Dry" is a great release and the fact that it's for free and self-released doesn't make it worse. It's time for a record deal and an official release I say. In meanwhile, head over to the band's MySpace, download it and listen to it yourself. Dec 11 2009
