mind.area - Stagnation // Death

I really want to enjoy mind.area, I mean really enjoy it, not only just think it is okay. The 'Long-Distance Side Trip' album was a bit all over the place. I feel like mind.area is trying to figure out his sound when inspiration comes from so many places, trying to fit them all together. Since the 'Stagnation//Death' EP is somewhat taken from the last album, I expected even more of the same when remixers are putting their hands on everything.
To my surprise, I actually feel it is a step in the right direction. The tracks "No Chance" and "Lowdown (feat Reizstrom)" are not taken from the last album and are probably my favourite tracks with mind.area. "No Chance" got a nice flow to it and Reizstrom's vocals really lift the "Lowdown" track to new heights.
"Sap" from the last album has got an ambient alike sound to it and "The Call" almost as well in it's "EGOamp remix". I really enjoy the middle part when all the sounds evolve into a wither soundscape. The "Sed-mix" of "Deadlock" and the "LPF12 Remix" of "Grief of Love" are both to noisy and dirty, especially when it seems mind.area is at its best with more clean sounds.
I'm curious of what mind.area will put together in his upcoming material. Mar 22 2011
