Lexincrypt - Scar Tissue
I was a big fan of Lexincrypt's dark and brooding comeback album 'Of Unsound Mind'. Barely a handful of months after that release, he's back with a selection of remixes from that album.
'Scar Tissue' opens with Mangadrive's driving EBM / trance take on the title track, easily the strongest cut to be found here. Other highlights include c2.control.org's stompy powernoise take on the atmospheric "Unfaithful" and The Ludovico Technique who infused much of their own sound to "Misanthropic Me". Props also to C/A/T and his mix of 'Scar Tissue', some very cool synth sounds on this one.
As for the other mixes, Xiescive's mix of "Misanthropic Me" is harsh EBM by numbers, enjoyable but nothing outstanding. Little Sap Dungeon's slow and crunchy mix of "Scar Tissue" is also well executed but lacks something, as does Hodr's version. Negative points to Exeter who added an excessive amount of reverb and other unnecessary effects to 'Scar Tissue'.
The final two tracks are also worth mentioning. Sinsect's driving aggro industrial take on "Misanthropic Me" and Filament 38's mix of "Scar Tissue", the latter of which adds metal guitars into the mix.
As a whole, 'Scar Tissue' is a hit and miss affair, as is the case with most remix albums. There are some gems to be found but I'd rather stick with the original material by Lexincrypt and most of the groups involved. Feb 25 2011
