ES23 - GOD23
'God23' is a self produced/released album by the group ES23, a dark electro band from Germany. Usually when people release a album without a label in their back the production is often kind of bad and very raw, but in this case I feel that they have done a decent job with it the only problem I can hear is that the sound volumes are a bit uneven and some of the tracks feel a bit unpolished.
This is an album with very dark music a accompanied by distorted vocals and melodies that feel very sad yet aggressive at some parts. "Child" is a song with a melody that remind me of a music box and in some way I want to refer it to Wumpscut or Suicide Commando's song "Plastic Christ". This song is followed by a faster song with a more club like feel called "About a God".
The first time I listened through this album I was expecting your typical EBM band but after listening through it a couple of times I felt that this wasn't their goal at all. I think that ES23 want to express more feelings and that they have deeper purpose than to make beats that people can dance to, even thought some songs would fit well on a dance floor like "I want you" and "Sweetmeat".
In the end I can't really help but to think that some things needs to be polished a bit more and needs some more work like the clean vocals for instance and of course the volume levels of the songs. The production also needs a little push forward but that comes with experience and I still think it sound decent for an unsigned band. May 19 2009
