Diskonnekted - Hotel Existence
I have not heard Diskonnekted since their debut album 'Jesus Raves' back in 2003. Things have surely changed since then, because I remember the experience to be a much more about dark rave and dark electronics. This Diskonnekted we meet today is a varied experience, finding influences from a multiple of genres.
The sound of electronic pop with "Yesteryears", the electrorock feel in "Justify", the dubstep chorus in "Dark Place (ft GNY)", the dancetrack "Sunblind" and "Stuck in one Universe" that would not have been out of place in the latest (and greatest?) Prodigy album. Each and every single track on this album have something to bring. They are all good and great tracks, but is Diskonnekted able to tie it altogether?
Not to a full extent, no. You can really tell that Diskonnekted is flooded with influences from all genres and they get new ideas they want to experiment with. However, they manage to keep it together enough for not leaving you with the compilation-feeling that haunted the latest Psy'Aviah album.
Diskonnekted impress me, and they have made a journey the last 9 years; their set is tight and their production value is high. I think Alfa-Matrix have been a good move for the band to make, starting with their 2005 release 'Neon Night'.
I wish it was all tied down a bit more, but on the other hand, you are simply rewarded with 14 great tracks, and that is surely something. This comes recommended when it's being released on the 18th of May 2012. May 04 2012
