ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: UltraKiller - "Death Trap"
Though it's arguable that synthwave has become a very, very oversaturated genre with tons of sci-fi and retro-heads ready to take a stab at the genre, there are always a couple of releases each year that outdo the rest. One such album is UltraKiller's "Death Trap". Recently released via JST Records, the Polish duo takes on the story of a serial killer in a dystopian city through a synthwave and metal hybrid album. This is complete with professionally acted dialogue segments recounting the entirety of the story. Complete with cinematic synths, a cover art that would not be out of place as a VHS sleeve, "Death Trap" is worth your time. Now, if only it would get a physical release.
Nuclear*Sun - "Couldn't Have Said It Better vol. 1"
Industrial rock artist Nuclear*Sun has released a compilation of cover songs titled "Couldn't Have Said It Better vol. 1". The twelve track release contains songs from NIN, Rabbit Junk, Cyanotic, Filter, Mindless Faith, and The Shizit. There are also six instrumental versions of each of these tracks available on the release. You can stream / purchase the collection directly below:
Ruptured World - "Shore Rituals"
Dark ambient project Ruptured World has announced that their new album "Shore Rituals" will be released on March 23rd, 2021 via Cryo Chamber. Taken from the Bandcamp page of the album, it "contemplates the enigmas of the sea and brings a world of oceanic mysteries to the threshold of our understanding." The ten track album will be released in both digital and limited edition CD formats, and can be streamed directly below:
Kill Shelter + Antipole - "A Haunted Place"
Though the album has already been announced, Kill Shelter and Antipole are hot on promoting "A Haunted Place". Thus, they have launched a new single off of the album titled 'Burn Bright'. Pete Burns of Kill Shelter described the song as dealing "with themes of addiction...but it also has a strong element of salvation" while Karl Dahl of Antipole describes it as having "dark energy" with "elements of melancholic fragility". Alia Synesthesia - 'Stop Go'
Alia Synesthesia has announced that her EP "Anhedonia" will be released in July of 2021, This is the first concept EP to be released under the name and pays homage to several sounds of the 90s (trip-hop, NIN, The Sugarcubes, Bjork). While the EP is far off from release, the debut single from it 'Stop Go' has been released on Bandcamp (stream below). The EP is currently available to pre-order in two editions: the standard white edition, and the black edition which is limited to twenty copies. Construct - "The Momentum Of Prior Belief"
Roland Zwaga (Krate, Acidrodent) and Fredrik Vorderhake (Liquid Black Goo) have formed together in collaboration to create Construct. The album has been described as containing ten tracks of heavy melodic industrial, and includes a digital booklet and one bonus track. The album will be released on April 15th, 2021 and can be streamed / pre-ordered below:
BlakLight - "Unknown Love - The Remixes"
Synthpop project BlakLight has announced the release of their remix album "Unknown Love - The Remixes". This sees the single 'Unknown Love', taken off their current album "Music in a Time of Uncertainty", remixed by the likes of NITE, Hollowlove, Sea of Sin, and others. The four track EP is inspired by the movies of Marco Bechis about the Argentine dictatorship. Experimental project Shed Skin has formed this project as a bridge between Shed Skin and their other project Nið. Nachtschatten in Rauch has been described as "The mathematical transition between Nið and Shed Skin. Featuring collaborations from individuals we hold dear." Nið also has a new album out, while Shed Skin described that as "a vessel that will take you to another Land where one can use negative magick without consequence to inflict & explore pleasure & pain." Synthpop project montage collective has released a remix EP titled "Nowhere Home (Remixes)". This trio of songs takes the single from the project's debut album "Interstitial" and gets it an in-house mix and a remix from LorD and Master. Catenation - 'Room 03 [presence in this moment]'
Industrial trio Catenation has released a brand new music video for their song 'Room 03 [presence in this moment]'. The single is taken off of the project's album "rooms 01-05 [deep wounds]" which released in March of 2020. Catenation is a project that consists of Lindsay O'Connor (Vocals/Lyrics), Sylvia Hinz (Recorders/Electronics), and Jeanne Comateuse (Bass Guitar/Percussion/Electronics). The project was found in 1996, and some of the cassette tapes used for creating "room 01-05 [deep wounds]" stem from that time period. The Creeping Man - 'Age 13'
