Creatures Synthpop, Darkwave Ari Mason Ari Mason has been a name more popularized around the net thanks to the ever satiable Mr.Kitty and record label Negative Gain Productions. However, Mason's impressive music production and vocals are also to blame for her widespread acclaim and attention. This it the type of musician who does not need media publicity; listening to one of her songs after someone drops her name is all that it takes to fall in love with her minimal and simplistic darkwave/synthpop influenced music. Her spellbinding music and storytelling will write a story filled with a lifetime of pain, happiness, and glory. When I speak of this musician, I talk of her latest album Creatures which has become widely accepted and praised by fans across the board. I'm finding it hard to believe that after seeking her out on various websites that she has failed to garner all that much attention. I did mention before that she does not need media publicity, but even then talent such as this that is so rare should rightfully capture attention nearly everywhere. Be that as it may, here I am writing of this enchantress. Creatures by Ari MasonWhile the music on Creatures is gorgeous in itself, it is delighting to listen to Mason's voice carry the entire album forward without ever feeling like her chords dim or dull. The one track that does an excellent job in seducing would be the hit single 'Brother'. A blend of ethereal dream sequence electronics and a beguiling serenade lured me into the song like none other available on the album. Some of the tracks available might turn off fans of Negative Gain's harder offerings as Mason has a beautiful indie pop sound on tracks such as 'Dim the Lights'. Light EBM undertones can also be found across the album, but never do her vocals fall for standard EBM growling or anger. It's always lush and thought out. I know I keep going back to the way Ari Mason presents herself vocally, but it is hard to honestly stay away from the subject when she is such a powerful lyricist and songstress. Some part of me would like to say that Mason puts on a character as she sings through the album, but often times the lyrics and emotions involved are far too personal and powerful to render the thought feasible. It seems as if Mason shows her raw self and unbridled tongue when crafting music. Ari Mason is the type of musician others wish they could be, and I would not be shocked if others are jealous of what she's able to achieve in such a simple yet outstanding manner. Creatures is the second album from Mason, so if you're digging this album there's more out there that you can discover. For now, sit back, relax, and get lost in Ari Mason's dark and appealing masterpiece.  550

I've been writing for Brutal Resonance since November of 2012 and now serve as the editor-in-chief. I love the dark electronic underground and usually have too much to listen to at once but I love it. I am also an editor at Aggressive Deprivation, a digital/physical magazine since March of 2016. I support the scene as much as I can from my humble laptop.
