Now, I've never really done a live video review before so far in my stint on Brutal, but considering I have both a love for music and film, I didn't see a reason as to why I couldn't put out my thoughts on Abbey Nex's and Valerie Gentile's side by side, live performance session. So, thirty four minutes of music came through like a bullet out of Hell between this two hearty musicians. And the result was kind of inspiring.

For how the looks went, Nex was looking sexy in some black shorts and stockings to match, a nice little black leather jacket and his long black hair fitting perfectly with the image. Gentile perfectly complimented her partner in crime, with lots of color in her hair, an equally Gothic outfit showing off plenty of leg; in all other words, both look hauntingly good. The location had plenty of lighting for clear image, and the little decor that surrounded them (for example, some black and gold roses) went along righteously enough.

So, image aside, the real question remained as to whether or not they performed well enough. And, while a lot of the music industry tends to rely on lip syncing and choreography to put an amazing live show, these two are dynamic enough with one another that everything is produced, seemingly on the spot.

I've never heard Being Used up until this point, but, despite that, it was a decent opening track. It was sort of laid back and sooth going in comparison to what was going to come next.

I was extremely familiar with the second song that they played out, which was Scarred from her debut EP Love Is Luxury. No lip syncing, and whereas some artists sound horrible live, Gentile brought a nice little extra punch to the mix. Even without the slight effects added to her voice in the album version, her voice was something get into during live performance. Abbey brought a rougher tone to the whole charade with some grimmer guitar work added to the pop-beat that presented itself in the original song. It was a great song in the album, and was great performed live as well.

The next track was of Nex's Comprehension from his debut album Zondustrial. While I've never heard this album at all before, the live version of this track was kick ass all in its own. Abbey took up the mic himself, and his voice shone just as much as Valerie's did during live play. However, when both sang in unison, there was a bit of an annoying static fed through the sound.

False Mystics then came up next, this one coming from the creative intrigue of Abbey's fingertips. His screaming sounded nice in itself, and brought something new that I hadn't seen in the video as of yet. RIght after, we got another slice of Heaven from Gentile; So Far Away. With a little extra flair added from Nex on keys, the song got some spice to it, and when they sang in unison, it came off just as nice on the album.

Spite came up next, and, once more, I'm new to Nex's debut album, so I'm none too sure how it should sound when played in its mastered form, but, nonetheless, it came off kickass, and these two hooligans definitely brought on some energy. Erase from Gentile's EP came up, and sounded blissful as always, and the final song in this half hour romp was Danger. Perhaps packing a bit of an extra punch from both parties since it was the last song performed, it managed to lure me in as much as it did when I first listened to it.

And, well, there we have it. I really have no complaints about this performance, and, in fact, it sort of sold me. Sold me in the sense that should these two ever play around my area, I'll probably be buying tickets and going to that show just to watch them rock out live. And, though the full video isn't ready to be seen as of yet, this clip is definitely something to look over when it releases. For now, however, you can check out two teaser clips from the full video below, showcasing the two playing Scarred and Comprehension.

I love the dark electronic underground and usually have too much to listen to at once but I love it. I am also an editor at Aggressive Deprivation, a digital/physical magazine since March of 2016. I support the scene as much as I can from my humble laptop.
