9 is a very magical number, connected with the Moon, the mistress of Night and Illusion. It makes sense to find the one band who's been able to find the perfect balance between the newest trend, witch house, with darkwave: at #9 of our countdown, we find ∆AIMON and their widely acclaimed EP 'Flatliner'.

Now, witch house is a genre that I personally "like to like", if that makes sense to you as much as it does to me. I like the aesthetics, I like the aura of mystery about it, and I like the sparse soundscapes it conjures. But it's true also that it's a genre in its infancy, and it will take a while before reaching maturity: hence, you do find lots of drivel in it.

∆AIMON is the one band that is showing everyone else how it's done: finely crafted, gloomy atmosphere, united with strong songwriting and good production, delivered with a great taste in choosing the right sigils to adorn the graphics, very reminiscent, if you will allow me the hyperbole, of what Austin Osman Spare would do these days if he had Photoshop.

Already known for some fine tracks found on Soundcloud (I suggest you to check out "Exu Rei"), this EP marks the start of a very promising career. And the CD reissue, released by Artoffact Records, brings you even more goodies, among them the fine remixes done by Encephalon (my favourite), Haujobb and Dead When I Found Her.

The perfect soundtrack for your nighttime evocations.

Suggested listening: current, "FLATLINER", "EVIL EYE", "Flatliner (Encephalon Remix)".
